LemonAID DAY - Sunday, October 26, 2014
All Day, All Over Marin
Please join Good Warrior for our upcoming fundraising event, LemonAID Day, on Sunday, October 26!
We are recruiting as many people as possible to host charity lemonade stands throughout Southern and Central Marin. Proceeds will benefit Tipping Point, a Bay Area nonprofit whose extraordinary work in the fight against poverty makes a difference every day for people in need.
Looking for neighborhood captains who will host a LemonAID stand or find a great location for one if your driveway isn't ideal for this event; spread the word with flyers and signs in your local community; and recruit friends to help. The captain will also encourage the children to participate as much as possible with this endeavor; kids love making homemade signs and flyers and posting them throughout the neighborhood!
Good Warrior will provide each captain with information and a kit that will help you understand the basics of what to do, and of course you will also be invited to be as creative as you like.
This event is Rain Or Shine. If it's sunny, you can sell lemonade and cookies. If it's raining, you can do hot chocolate, cider, chicken noodle soup or some other warm treats. Whatever gets people to stop by and donate. The purpose is to show our children that they can make a difference! The amount of money raised is not as important as the effort, collaboration and commitment of the kids who are involved.
We are so fortunate to enjoy a safe, beautiful, privileged life in beloved Marin County and the surrounding Bay Area. But often our children don't see much of the world beyond. Let's help them to understand themselves in the context of a larger picture; to be grateful for what they have; and to think imaginatively about how they can help others. They are our Good Warriors!
Please contact Ruth McDaniels at beagoodwarrior@gmail.com to sign up by Tuesday, October 21.
EVENT BACKGROUND: The idea of hosting lemonade stands to raise money for charity is not new, but this kind of grassroots effort has been implemented recently on a larger scale through the Robin Hood Foundation, a well known funder in the fight against poverty and homelessness in New York City. Robin Hood's Lemonaid Program was recently featured on Good Morning America. To learn about the big impact these little stands can have, you can view that GMA segment here: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/robin-hood-lemon-aid-stand-opened-lara-spencer-24738448
Robin Hood only raises money for the NYC area, but there are many wonderful programs here in the Bay Area that could use our help. After carefully researching several worthy causes, we have selected Tipping Point, a local nonprofit whose extraordinary work in support of the fight against poverty in the Bay Area stands out to us. Because Tipping Point was founded by a former Robin Hood Foundation staff member and it shares a similar mission, it was a natural choice to be the beneficiary of our LemonAID Day fundraising efforts. You can learn more about Tipping Point here: https://tippingpoint.org
